RECIPE: Gourmet Popcorn paired with Pinot Gris

You know what we love about Pinot Gris? How absolutely simple it is!

We’ve paired our 2018 Pinot Gris with Gourmet Popcorn, a simple recipe prepared by our very own Jessica Hudson!

Ingredients

  • At least 1 full bag of Popcorn, but there’s no need to stop at one.
  • Balsamic Vinegar (try our Balsamic Bliss! Available in our Wine Shop and made locally in Summerland)
  • Olive Oil OR Butter

Directions

  • Like the Pinot Gris the directions here are simple, just pop the corn, drizzle the Balsamic on to your heart’s content and then add an equal amount of Olive Oil and/or Butter. Add salt and/or seasoning if you wish but there’s absolutely no need for them.

The Story Behind the Recipe:

Our 2018 Pinot Gris is the prefect wine for literally any occasion, from social events to those lazy nights at home! With its subtle but ever present bursts of citrus, coupled with subdued flavors of  green apples and pears all wrapped up in that soft, middle of the road body that never drifts too close to sweet nor too close to dry, our Pinot Gris is never a demanding drink, and the full scope of its potential pairings is virtually limitless! From chicken or seafood (or maybe some Chicken of the Sea) to tangy salads and cream-based pastas.

With such a plethora of potentially exquisite food pairings, you’d be forgiven for thinking Pinot Gris was the gourmands wine of choice, a varietal coveted by Michelin-star chefs and crotchety old wine collectors, but thankfully one of the few things Pinot Gris doesn’t pair well with are those unbearably pretentious types.

Pinot Gris is an every man’s, every day wine. This is the wine you pop at the end of a long and tiring day at work. The wine you serve on those unnerving first dates in hopes they don’t notice that the roast chicken is a little too roasted. Planning a night of binge watching your guilty pleasure show on Netflix? Pinot Gris pairs superbly with that! Attending a fancy dinner party? (monocles optional), Pinot Gris will likely fit in there too!

For such and incredibly humble grape as the Pinot Gris that is so often deeply overlooked, we wanted to make for this wine a meal that was exquisite, something elegant, something… gourmet. But at the end of the day we realized how wrong it would be to match this noble varietal with anything too complicated. Afterall, this is a wine that invites us to celebrate every day as if it was already a celebration, and every meal as if it was already a feast. So in the end we decided that there could be no more an appropriate pairing for Pinot Gris than Gourmet Popcorn.

For the Good Life. Made Simple.
